Adventures on Horseback

About Walt
Walt breeds, raises and trains his horses specifically for trail riding, they are not rescued horses, retired race horses, or old nags that nobody else wants. He uses gaited horses for a smooth comfortable ride, enjoyable even for those without years of riding experience. Walt's horses are of prime age to provide an exciting ride for the true horse enthusiast.

My horses are dedicated to you and your group for the day, you are not grouped with others to make up a group ride... it is your ride. You set the pace, stop when you want to take a break, make a day of it and pack a lunch, it is your adventure. I go along to help with problems, provide some quidance (cell phone, GPS), and to take care of the horses during breaks.

This is not the typical group ride like you would get at a riding stable or dude ranch, the idea is to give a more "tailored to the individual" approach to the riding experience.

Walt prefers to take out small groups of two to four people so that the ride can be tailored to each individual's ability and desires. Riders are required to have some training or previous experience with horseback riding. For those who have not ridden in some time, a local two-hour ride may be best to exercise muscles that have not been used in a while. Like any sport it helps to have some professional training in order to fully appreciate the risks and skills involved.

Walt strives to give the rider an experience that is something like you might have if you had your own horse. He strives to give the type of enjoyable ride he wanted prior to having his own horses.

Horses Walt Uses
Walt breeds and trains horses specifically for trail riding. Along with Farms in Ohio, New York and Florida horses are bred and trained to develop the best riding experience. Horses with a good disposition, that are not overly excitable, and are well-gaited are his prerequisites. Walt works in conjunction with Three Ridges Farm in Moscow, Ohio to develop well trained Tennessee Walkers. In Florida he uses Paso's from Cypress House B&B. In New York, Walt works with North East Mountain Horses to develop Mountain Pleasure horses. These breeds offer an easy going pace for the rider wanting to put more effort into experiencing the landscape than concentrating on the horse.
