An additional $1 per mile (one way) for locations over 25 miles from my base of operations. (Half day rentals begin or end by 1:00pm.) Are you having a family reunion or event where you would like some horses for your guests? Rent horses from Adventures on Horseback. At some locations Walt is offering carriage rides with his team of Helen and Cherokee. During the week Walt can also provide hauling of your own horse to shows, vet, or other locations. Some Important Information Please be sure to dress for the weather, wearing layers of lightweight clothing. Bring a rain poncho or equivalent since weather conditions can change during the course of the ride. My horses are sure-footed, well trained, stable horses. I do have weight limitations and require riders to be healthy and free of physical disabilities that would prohibit safe riding. Children must be at least 12 years old and have had some prior training.
Good sensible footwear is important. Smooth soles with heals work best for riding. Please avoid sneakers or thick, heavy-treaded hiking boots that can get stuck in the stirrups. Feel free to bring chaps or hats. Hats that will stay on in a trot or gallop will make your ride more enjoyable. A chin strap really helps. Always be prepared for rain. On long rides weather can change while we are far away from the trail head. You can tie raingear or a jacket in a roll behind your saddle. Saddles will be provided with saddle bags to carry water, sodas, or snacks for the ride. Half-day rides are approximately 2 to 3 hours, day rides average 5 hours. You do need a reservation in advance. Since these rides are tailored to the individual you will not be combined with others to make a group. I will interview you prior to setting up your ride to determine the best conditions for you and your party. Riding experience is valuable, however a good positive mental attitude, an adventurous spirit, and average physical fitness will go a long way in making your ride enjoyable. Good balance is important. This is a physical activity so a certain degree of soreness should be expected. I do have a weight limit of no more than 240 lbs, however it is not only about weight. A heavy person who has good balance is easier for the horse to carry than a lighter person with no sense of balance. Expecting a horse to carry a big, non-athletic person creates safety issues for the horse, rider, and others in the party. Keep in mind the roundness factor… think of balancing a pumpkin on a fence rail. I will provide good western saddles, you may bring your own English or western saddle however I will reserve the right to refuse your use of it if it does not suit your mount (horse). On long rides you will want saddle bags to carry snacks and liquid refreshments as well as any personal items you might require such as bug repellent, tissues, eye drops, etc. Happy trails to you! |
